Take yourself away and put some thought into what you are looking for in your next move. Give some consideration to the following questions to help communicate your personal and professional goals to yourself, your Recruitment Consultant and to a potential employer.
TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR CAREER:
- Why are you looking for a new role?
- Why have you made the career decisions that you have?
- What are your motivations?
- What really interests you?
- What drives you?
- What are you good at?
- What skills do you need to develop?
- What achievements are you most proud of?
- Weigh up the pros and cons of making a career move. What are you looking to achieve?
As daunting as it may seem, try to obtain some personal insight. Ask for some references from previous employers and colleagues or take an online psychometric or personality assessment.
Seek advice from your Recruitment Consultant and encourage open and honest dialogue. Get feedback on your CV, the challenges you might face, your current position within the job market and your suitability for the roles you are considering. Seek salary advice and be realistic with your expectations, being overpaid can be detrimental to your career while being underpaid can be detrimental to your motivation.

It may be a good idea to increase your ‘personal branding’ online. Is your professional profile and ‘online CV’ at sites like LinkedIn doing you justice?
Social media sites are increasingly referred to as ‘soft reference points’ by potential employers. Depending on the type of work you do, they provide excellent personal branding opportunities, but they are best approached with caution.
